DÉSORIENTATION
 إرتبـــــــــــــــــــــــــاك

Curated by  MICHEL GAUTHIER at Fondation Vasarely, Aix En Provence from 5 to 12 octobre

With the artists : Amir Youssef, Gabriel Siino et
Chloé Poey-Lafrance

This year, artists who have recently graduated from the Aix-en-Provence art school are confronted with a choice of works from the collections of the Center Pompidou and selected under the curatorship of Michel Gauthier. Such a proposal is a rare opportunity to interact with exceptional pieces from the National Museum of Modern Art. It also offers the opportunity to rediscover the familiar artist Victor Vasarely, but from an angle that is still little considered, that of the pivotal time in the maturation of his work. Young artists leaving school - whose work, at its beginnings, itself still includes this dimension of gestation - are therefore interested here in the issues of the fruitful intersection of curiosities, cultures and eras, to measure the discrepancies and reconciliations. This involves considering the history of post-war abstraction and thinking about the shift that this discovery brought about for a large number of emerging artists. The double movement that the “Before the Op” exhibition suggests, between flashback and projection, therefore constitutes a stimulating ground for reflection as well as experimentation for the mirrored group.
