Nowhere Place

In 2012, my heightened awareness of the intrinsic significance and worth of materials was cultivated during my collaboration with the esteemed American artist, Theaster Gates, on his "Huguenot House" endeavor, conceived in conjunction with DOCUMENTA (13).

Within the context of this site-specific installation, an abandoned elevator shaft underwent a profound metamorphosis under Gates' creative direction. Evolving into an alternate domain, the previously neglected space assumed an ethereal quality, characterized by the interplay of luminance and aqueous movement. Accompanied by the organic and amplified symphony of the elevator's mechanical workings, the transformation rendered the shaft an erstwhile unacknowledged entity, now possessing its own distinct essence, luminescence, and purpose.
